Estonian entrepreneurs successful at Europas startup awards
Europas – Europe’s equivalent of tech startup Oscars – took place in London on Tuesday night, to celebrate the best of the continent’s tech entrepreneurship. Two Estonian-founded startups, Pipedrive and Transferwise, were among the nominees – and neither came away empty-handed.
Pipedrive, which creates software for salesmen, won the Best B2B Startup of the Year award and the founders of Transferwise, Taavet Hinrikus and Kristo Käärmann, were honoured as the best startup founders.
Hinrikus and Käärmann launched the peer-to-peer money transfer service in 2011 and their firm has now grown to employ over 300 people in London, Tallinn and New York.
Jaan Tallinn, one of the developers and cofounder of Skype, was also nominated – for the 'Best Angel/Seed Investor of the Year' reward.
Founded in 2009, the Europas are the premier awards for continent’s hottest tech firms in over 20 categories. While it concentrates on the newest companies on the scene, it also brings together the mid and late stage technology startups, as well as leading investors and media in the region.
