More than 183,000 euros has been allocated by the Estonian government for the construction of a new European Union IT Agency building in Tallinn.

The center will deal with the management of large-scale IT systems in the areas of freedom, security and justice. It will be built and based near the Tallinn Seaplane Harbor, in Vesilennuki Street, and will become the permanent headquarters of the EU IT Agency. The location was selected by developers Riigi Kinnisvara AS.

Construction will begin this year and should be finished by 2017. It will be managed by the Ministry of Interal Affairs. The money will come from the government's reserves and the decision was approved on Thursday.

The agency was established on December 2012. It provides solutions for the operational management of large-scale IT systems. It also manages EU data, including visa, asylum and crime information.

The seat of the agency is in Tallinn, currently operating from temporary facilities, but the operational management of the large-scale systems is carried out in Strasbourg, France.

The new head office in Tallinn is expected to accommodate up to 100 employees.
