Justice Ministry Becomes Intellectual Property Watchdog
The task of fighting copyright crime in Estonia will soon be transferred from the Ministry of Culture to the Ministry of Justice as part of efforts to improve controls on intellectual property.
Justice Minister Kristen Michal is due to present a proposal for the changes in ministry statutes to the Cabinet on July 28.
The reform means the creation of a media department at the Justice Ministry to coordinate activities, as well as a transfer of the 21,846 euros per year that had previously been allocated to the Ministry of Culture for the job, reported uudised.err.ee.
Most of the work done in the area thus far has been focused on development and harmonization of legislation, organizing training and improving international cooperation.
