Levadia Claims First Bragging Rights of Football Season
Tallinn FC Levadia, which finished second in the league last year behind Nõmme JK Kalju, scored three unanswered goals against Kalju in the Estonian football season's curtain raiser, the Super Cup.
Artur Rättel scored a goal on each side of a strike by Igor Subbotin to hand Levadia their 5th Super Cup at the Sportland Arena in Tallinn, reported sport.err.ee.
The win came as a surprise as Kalju had invested heavily in its squad in the off-season, while Levadia had been forced to part with arguably its best player last year, Igor Morozov.
Over 600 fans turned out on the milder-than-normal February evening yesterday.
The league kicks off on Saturday.
