Viimsi Policeman Wins This Year's Scoutsrännak Race
Scoutsrännak, an annual, military-style endurance event open to the public, was won by Steven Rehelem of the Police and Border Guard with a time of 3:02.
Rehelem, a police official in Viimsi municipality, was followed in the Thursday event by Toomas Loho of the police's criminal investigation department with a time of 3:05. Jüri Linde of the Defence League's Saare district was third with a time of 3:17.
The top three civilians were Silver Eensaar, Armo Hiie and Erik Aibast.
Participants are required to cover the 30-kilometer course either in field uniform carrying a service weapon and a 10-kilogram load, or, in the case of civilians, with a 15-kilogram backpack and clothing of their own choosing.
Entry in the annual event, held in what is usually the worst possible early spring conditions near Paldiski, is limited to 1,500 people. This year's turnout was over 1,300. Conditions were considerably less slushy than usual due to lingering late winter weather.
This year's event was dedicated to the memory of fallen Defense Forces personnel.
