Zopp Out, Kanepi Set to Begin Wimbledon Campaign
Estonia's top-ranking tennis player, Kaia Kanepi, will face Briton Tara Moore (WTA 198) in the opening round of Wimbledon Tuesday. On the men's aside, compatriot Jürgen Zopp fell out of contention with a loss on Monday.
Kanepi's (WTA 46) match against Moore, who qualified thanks to a wild card, will begin at 19:45 Estonian time.
Kanepi missed last year's Wimbledon tournament due to an injury and was beaten in the first round of the 2011 tournament, but is expected to win Tuesday's match.
The 28-year-old is in good form, winning the Brussels Open at the end of May, before falling in the second round of the Paris Open to Maria Sharapova (WTA 2).
The nation's top male tennis player, Jürgen Zopp (ATP 181), had a harder task, having to take on Spaniard Nicolas Almagroga, ranked 16th in the world. He lost a fairly well-played match in straight sets, 4:6, 6:7 (2:7), 5:7.
The draw for the juniors event, where Anett Kontaveit could go far, having just won two youth tournaments, will be held on Tuesday.
