Nabi Brings Home Bronze From World Championships
Olympic silver medalist and world champion Heiki Nabi could not defend his title, but still came back from the Wrestling World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with a bronze medal.
Nabi lost to Riza Kayaalp, from Turkey, in the semifinal 4-0, but bounced back and took the only point in a match against Balint Lam, of Bulgaria. Nabi won the point after 4:37 had elapsed.
“The great work and practice done in the last four months paid off,” he told ERR radio after the match on Saturday.
He said he is happy with the medal, adding that he had the stamina and work-rate, but lacked spark in the tournament.
Nabi won the silver medal at the event a year ago, but the winner later failed a doping test and Nabi was awarded the title.
