Kanepi Makes Finals in Estoril Open
Kaia Kanepi has reached the finals of the Women's Tennis Association tournament in Estoril, Portugal, by beating Italian Roberta Vinci 6-2, 7-5.
In the first set, Kanepi broke serve in the fourth and eighth games, reported sport.err.ee.
The second set was more complicated. Neither player could hold serve, until Vinci took the lead with 5-2. But then the tables turned in Kanepi's favor, as she finished the match strong winning five games in a row.
Kanepi is currently ranked 34th in the world; Vinci is ranked 23rd.
In the final, Kanepi will face either Carla Suarez Navarro from Spain or Karin Knapp from Italy.
The rise to the final is the first successful result for some time. Kanepi has been quickly knocked out of several tournaments this season, in addition to cancellations due to injuries. She also parted ways with her coach in March.
