Estonia's Starting Athletes Upbeat About Sochi Chances
The men's biathlon 10 km sprint on Saturday will be the first 2014 Winter Games event for the Estonian team, and some of the country's biathletes have said they're feeling good about their chances going into the Olympic fray.
Of Estonia's nine biathletes, all of whom arrived at the Olympic village yesterday, the brightest hope is Kauri Kõiv. He placed 6th once in the World Cup this year and said he believes he can reach a similar result at the Olympics, ETV's sports program reported.
Indrek Tobreluts, part of the Estonian Olympic team for the fifth time, has the double duty of carrying the national flag at the opening ceremony on Friday. Initially reluctant, the 37-year-old has warmed to the idea and believes a change of plan could be a positive thing.
Roland Lessing, competing at the Olympics for the fourth time, placed second at a World Cup stage shortly before the Vancouver Olympics. “Last time I did too well shortly before the Olympics,” Lessing said. “I've been taking it easy this time.”
