Tartu marathon gets go-ahead, conditions good over all 63 km
The Tartu ski marathon organizing committee decided Monday that the 43rd Tartu marathon would take place in full on February 15.
"Already before the decision was made, it was clear we didn't have to worry about the marathon being canceled," said Indrek Kelk, director of the event, which was canceled last year due to lack of snow. "Instead we were discussing whether the race would go all the way to Elva or end at Palu."
On Sunday, a relay version of the Otepää-to-Elva marathon was held, which proved conditions were good, he said.
The weather forecast calls for spring-like conditions, meaning a hard freeze at night and some above freezing temperatures during the daytime, but most importantly, no rain.
The 63 km race will start at 9:00 at Tehvandi ski stadium in Otepää. The shorter 31 km distance will start from Arula at 12:30.
