It's official, Estonia has new top tennis player
Anett Kontaveit, 19, has passed Kaia Kanepi, 30, as Estonia's highest ranked female tennis player, after her stellar performance at the US Open.
Kontaveit made the highest leap in the rankings of anyone in the top 150. She jumped 56 places to 96th, while Kanepi fell from 89th to 121st.
Kontaveit reached the fourth round of the US Open, having beaten three players in the top 60 in the world. She lost to Venus Williams (WTA 23). Kontaveit was 573rd only four years ago and 166th last year.
Kanepi, on the other hand, was 15th in the world in 2012, but has been in slow decline in the rankings ever since.
Kanepi was Estonia's top tennis player for nine years, although the title has also been shortly held by Maret Ani.
