Sports Tonight: European League Football and Basketball Qualifiers
Two key sports events for Estonia are set to take place tonight: football champion Nõmme Kalju continues its roller-coaster international campaign, while the national basketball team faces Belarus in an away bid for a place at the 2015 European Championships.
Kalju will take on Ukrainian team Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, coached by two-time UEFA Cup winner Juande Ramos, in Tallinn tonight in Kalju's first match of this season's Europa League, the second tier of the European club competitions.
A month ago, Kalju repeated history by becoming the second Estonian team ever to progress to the second qualifying round of the Champions League and did so in fashion, beating much favored Finnish rivals HJK Helsinki.
Kalju then faced Czech champions Viktoria Plzen, who proceeded to score ten goals against the Estonians over two legs, forcing Kalju into the lower Europa League.
Tonight's game will start at 20:00 Estonian time. Our live link is available only to readers in Estonia. If you are one of the lucky ones, please click here when the time is right.
The return leg set to take place in Ukraine in a week.
The national basketball team is in Belarus tonight to take on that country's team in the first game of two. The overall winner of the two games will face either Switzerland or Bulgaria for a spot at the 2015 European Championships.
The second game is set to take place in Estonia on Sunday.
The Estonian team had already cleared one hurdle at the beginning of the month by beating Holland and Portugal in a preliminary qualifying group.
At the end of July, Estonia lost to Belarus 87-77 in a friendly game. Belarus's assistant coach is Martin Müürsepp, one of the all-time greats of Estonian basketball.
