Estonian Team to Race in International Six Days Enduro
For the first time, an Estonian team will take part in the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) - the world's oldest motocross event and most famous enduro race.
Around 120 teams from 30 countries will participate in this year's 1,500-kilometer-long race in Kotka and Hamina, Finland from August 8 to 13. Estonia will be represented by six of its best enduro racers.
Established in 1913, the first ISDE took place in Carlisle, UK. The race was hosted in countries across Europe until 1973, when it became a global event. In the last three years, the French have dominated the race. The Finns have also traditionally been at the top.
Last year, Estonia's Toivo Nikopensius became European champion in veteran class enduro racing. Aigar Leok, a world class motocross racer, recently took up enduro racing, planning to ride for TM Racing in the world championship.
Estonia's national enduro championship in 2011 will consist of three two-day stages.
