National Ice Hockey Team Wins Division II Championship
The Estonian national ice hockey team beat Division II second-place Spain last night in the world championships in Iceland, 5-3, securing a berth in Division I next season with a perfect 5-0-0 performance.
Estonia led 4-1 midway through the second period in the April 18 game in Reykjavik, but Spain pared the lead down to 4-3 before Maksim Ivanov got an insurance goal at 6:39 of the third.
Also with goals were Lauri Lahesalu, Dmitri Rodin, Maksim Semjonov and Ken Kuusk. Ivanov and Semjonov had an assist each.
Shots were heavily in Estonia's favor, 64-24.
