Nõmme Kalju leapfrogged FC Flora into first place on Monday in Estonia's top football division, but the top three are separated by only two points after 20 rounds.

Kalju beat Tartu Tammeka 3-0 away while FC Levadia and Flora drew 1-1 in Tallinn. The results mean Kalju is on top with 45 points from 20 games, followed by Flora on 44 and Levadia, last year's champion, on 43 points.

The rest of the table is as follows: Sillamäe (35 points), Infonet (33), Narva Trans (25), Viljandi Tulevik (18), Tartu Tammeka (14), Paide Linnameeskond (13) and Pärnu Linnameeskond (11).

There is now 16 more rounds to play.

University of Tartu/Rock, BC Kalev/Cramo and TLU/Kalev will take part in a new European club competition organized by FIBA, the International Basketball Federation.

President of the Estonian Basketball Association Jüri Ratas said he is happy Estonian clubs are turning towards the West, having previously preferred to participate in regional tournaments with other former Soviet teams.

Rock and BC Kalev will play a couple of fewer games in the Estonian championship as their calenders would be too full.

Currently teams are signing up players with the main season set to begin in around two months.
