Injured Taaramäe Expecting Long Recovery Period
Estonia's top cyclist Rein Taaramäe has said he is now looking at a two- to three-month recovery period after sustaining a complicated elbow and forearm injury at the Castilla y Leon tour in Spain on April 15.
“At first the arm didn't hurt much, so I didn't suspect anything like this and I thought I would be okay in a couple of days. On Tuesday, Tartu doctors put my arm in a cast and told me that it would be on for one month, and recovery would be 2-3 months,” he wrote on his blog, adding that full function is not expected until Christmas.
The 24-year-old, who races with the French team Cofidis, had just returned to cycling after a bout of mononucleosis that began in February.
He said that in the best case scenario he will be able to compete in the Dauphine tournament in early June but if recovery does not progress he could miss this year's Tour de France.
