Kalju's Win Heats Up Football League
Estonian football champion Nõmme Kalju beat league leaders FC Levadia 2:1 to reduce the latter's lead at the top of the table to only two points, with seven games to go.
Eino Puri opened the scoring on the 16th minute for Kalju, heading in from a corner kick, but played the villain 17 minutes later by fouling Dimitri Kruglov in the penalty box. Kruglov then leveled the game from the penalty spot.
Levadia defender Aleksei Jahhimovitš earned a red card on the 55th minute to give Kalju the upper hand, and it was Puri again who scored with a header following a free kick on the 72nd minute.
In addition to the straight red, the referee handed out nine yellow cards, while both sides missed numerous chances to score, in a match watched by only 500 people.
The two will meet again next Tuesday for the final match between the pair in the league this season.
In Tuesday's other match, Sillamäe Kalev beat Paide 3:1, and now have a five-point lead over fourth place FC Flora.
