The national anthem sounded in Kiel, Germany, as an Estonian yacht took a sailing crown by a wide margin at the weeklong Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) World Championship, which concluded on Saturday.

Forte, an X-41 yacht with Jaak Jõgi as helmsman and a crew of nine, finished first in Class B for medium-sized vessels.

The regatta featured two long (up to 10 hours) offshore races and seven shorter inshore races.

Fifty-seven yachts contended in class B, part of a record number of total entrants.

Forte finished with a total score of 26, 18 points better than Dutch yacht Checkmate and the Czechs' Three Sisters, tied with 44 points.

Another Estonian yacht, Reval Cafe, was fifth with 49.5 points.

The Forte's crew members were Kalev Vapper, Tammo Otsasoo, Indrek Rajangu, Marko Nüüd, Kalev Kaal, Martin Kaal, Ando Raud, Alar Volmer and a German, Olaf Sylla.

In class C, the Estonians' Katariina (helmsman Aivar Tuulberg) and Sugar2 (Erki Mets) placed fourth and fifth.
