Estonian Soldiers Return From Invictus Games
Six Estonian soldiers took part in the first-ever Invictus games in the UK, winning three medals.
The games are similar to the Paralympics, but involve wounded soldiers, with 300 soldiers from 13 nations taking part.
“The organization was fantastic, with spectators and civilians were involved. For example the closing ceremony which had 26,000 people watching,” said Toomas Mikk, who won a bronze medal from the 100 meter freestyle swimming event. Mikk was sustained five bullet wounds in Afghanistan.
“When you are no longer 100% healthy, [the games show] you can still do and achieve things,” said shot put silver medalist Jaune Engel, who lost a leg in Afghanistan.
Estonia also won a silver in weightlifting.
