Kanepi's Wimbledon Campaign Starts With Hard-Fought Victory
Kaia Kanepi's first match in women's singles was about as close as they come, as she knocked out the UK's Tara Moore, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 late on Tuesday.
"It was very difficult today for me. I do not feel very confident on the grass at the moment, but I will try to play better," Kanepi said on her website after the match.
"It occasionally feels like a lottery on the grass, the one who is more aggressive and succeeds with her shots will win. There is no plan B at grass," said Kanepi.
Kanepi (WTA 46) will go on to face Angelique Kerber (WTA 7) of Germany in the second round on Thursday at around 15:30 Estonian time.
The only previous match between the two, in 2009, ended in a win for Kanepi.
