Estonian football champions Nõmme Kalju could not continue the dream, losing 0-4 to Viktoria Plzeň of the Czech Republic in Tallinn Tuesday night in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Plzeň welcomed Kalju to the next round in the first minute, after defender Marian Cisovska scored after some confusion in Kalju's penalty box. The rest of the first half was more bark than bite.

The second half was livelier, with Kalju forward Damiano Quintieri showing the 4,400-strong home crowd some acrobatics. But Plzeň showed why they were heavy favorites, scoring three more goals as Kalju pushed unsuccessfully for just one.

The second leg will be played in the Czech Repubcli next week, but Kalju will have to score at least four goals to progress.

But they can take solace in having beaten Finnish champions HJK Helsinki last week, becoming the second Estonian club to ever make it so far in the UEFA competition.

The game was originally due to be held at the Kadriorg Stadium, but will instead be held at the larger A. Le Coq Arena, as more spectators were expected.

All other Estonian teams are now out of contention for international cups, after FC Levadia was beaten 4-0 in the second leg tie against a Romanian rival on Thursday.
