Williams Dismisses Kanepi in Straight Sets
Serena Williams and her service game proved too dominant for Estonia's top-ranked female tennis player, Kaia Kanepi, who fell 6-3, 6-3 to the world #1 in the fourth round of the US Open.
The first set started with Kanepi dropping the first six points. But she recovered and held serve, then matching Williams game for game until 3-3, at which point Williams broke serve and ran away with it.
After Williams broke Kanepi's serve in the first game of the second, Kanepi did break right back to tie it at 1-1. She would break WIlliams's serve a second time with Williams serving for the match, but unforced errors were her undoing.
Williams had eight aces; Kanepi, none. Williams also had an edge in service winners, 19 to 11.
The match was played in center court, Arthur Ashe Arena, in 1:04 and was attended by 22,000.
