Estonia's second-highest ranked tennis player Anett Kontaveit (WTA 161) beat Alize Cornet (WTA 21) 7-6, 6-3 at the Swedish Open.

Kontaveit only graduated from the youth level last year, and has risen in rankings ever since.

Kaia Kanepi (WTA 73), also won her first round game at the tournament, beating local Johanna Larsson (WTA 73) 6-2, 4-6 and 7-5, fighting back from a 5-2 position in the last set. “Being 2-5 down in the decider I thought that I still have a chance. When I had the opportunity I did try to play aggressively, when not, I tried to be patient,” she said.

Kontaveit just now lost her second round match, against Jana Cepelova (WTA 64). Kontavei took the lead in both sets, 3-1 and 3-0, but lost 4-6 and 3-6.
