Kaia Kanepi will make a bid for the semis at Wimbledon today at 15:00 in a match that will be live-streamed here on ERR (may not be available in your viewing area).

The somewhat surprising opponent is Germany's Sabine Lisicki, who upset Serena Williams yesterday. Either Kanepi or Lisicki will go on to face the winner of the Agnieszka Radwanska vs. Li Na match.

Kanepi is coming off a straight-sets but deceptively tight duel with Laura Robson of the UK.

British media somewhat grudgingly took note of the Kanepi "phenomenon" yesterday after she unseated the home favorite, 7-6, 7-5.

"Kanepi's an extremely good player, if a little uninspiring, and was a strong favorite to progress to the quarterfinals," wrote the Guardian, adding, albeit incorrectly: "Besides, with a name that translates as Cannabis of Cannabis, it's hardly a surprise that Kanepi turns out to be quite good on grass."

Kanepi also gave an interview to the Daily Mail in which she claimed to be currently Estonia's most famous athlete - though it didn't betray a lack of humility but rather an attempt to put things into perspective for foreign audiences.

"In Estonia, people recognize me everywhere," Kanepi told the latter paper. "I think I might be the biggest sports star; the biggest sportswoman for sure. There is a guy who plays American football called Margus Hunt. He’s also very famous. When I play a big match everybody is watching me, they have a break from work. I think the pubs in Tallinn will be full. It’s a pressure and an inspiration. When I lose they are very mad. That’s tough. When I lose I never read any newspapers."

She also confessed to a favorite pastime and second sport - racing her rally car over ice roads.

As mentioned, ERR has the rights to stream and broadcast the match to Estonian IP addresses.
