Estonia wins medal on last day of U23 athletics championship in Tallinn

Janek Õiglane won a bronze medal in decathlon with a personal best of 7,945 points, at the last day of the European Athletics U23 Championships, held in Tallinn.

The medal came as a relief to the hosts, after Estonia had recorded two fifth-place finishes earlier, in the 1,500 meter run and the heptathlon.

The event, which saw around 1,000 competitors from 46 nations, ended on Sunday. Õiglane came fourth in the last event of the decathlon competition, the 1,500 meter run on Sunday evening. Overall, Õiglane came third just 38 points behind Jorge Urena of Spain. Pieter Braun, of the Netherlands, won the competition with 8,195 points. Markus Leemet, the second Estonian competitor, came tenth with 7,172 points.

Andi Noot came fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3.45,41 while Grete Šadeiko also came fifth in the heptathlon competition, with a personal best of 5,813 points.
