Aksalu named best goalkeeper in Finland
Estonian national team goalkeeper Mihkel Aksalu, who plies his trade in Finland, has been chosen as the Finnish top league's “goalkeeper of the year.”
Aksalu helped his team Seinajöki to claim the club's first even Finnish league title a few weeks ago, soccernet.ee reported. Aksalu also received a “player of the month” award in May.
Aksalu's coach at Seinajöki, Simo Valakari, was named best coach.
Seinajöki won the league on the last day, winning 2-0 and claiming the title by just one point ahead of RoPs and two ahead of HJK.
Aksalu is only the third Estonian to win the Finnish football league title, after Sergei Terehhov and Ats Purje.
Aksalu, 30, replaced Sergei Pareiko, as the national team's main goalkeeper.
