Aigar Leok Hunts Rookie Honors in World Enduro
With the final stage of the World Enduro Championship still ahead, Estonian rider Aigar Leok, 26, hopes to become rookie of the year.
During the previous stage, in Andorra, Italian rookie Alex Salvini came out eleven points on top, but Leok is still on track to get the title, which is awarded based on points and a rider's vehicle class, reported sport.err.ee.
Finishing three seconds late in during the time trial, Leok was given a one-minute penalty. "Making up that time is very complicated,“ said Leok. He also lost time on the second day of the race, during the extreme test, which was especially difficult in the cliffy landscape of Andorra.
Salvini rides in the E3 class (290-500cc 2-stroke or 475-650cc 4-stroke) and has 135 points; Aigar Leok is in the E2 class (175-250cc 2-stroke or 290-450cc 4-stroke) and has 124 points.
The season finale takes place on October 1 and 2 in Mendes, France. "Both I and Salvini have a good chance of winning the rookie-of-the-year title; anything can happen in enduro,“ said Leok, currently in 11th place overall.
