Levadia crowned Estonian champions in style
The last day of the football season ended in less than dramatic fashion as FC Levadia beat Narva Trans 8-1 to claim the three points they needed to lift their ninth title.
Levadia needed to win, and could have been caught by FC Flora had they lost, with Flora beginning the day two points behind. Levadia showed no signs of nervousness opening the scoring on the 14th minute.
Levadia had already pulled 3-0 away by halftime while Flora was trailing 1-0 at Sillamäe, meaning the late rush to transport the championship silverware from Narva, where Levadia was playing, to Sillamäe, where Flora was playing, was not necessary.
Flora eventually lost to Sillamäe 3-2 and dropped to third with both on 79 points, but Sillamäe with more wins, while Nõmme Kalju finished fourth on 78 points.
Tallinna Kalev was already relegated at the beginning of the day, and Jõhvi Lokomotiv faces playoffs to either join Kalev in the lower league or continue in the top flight.
With the exception of TVMK in 2005 and Kalju in 2012, Levadia and Flora have won all top league titles after the 1996-97 season. Flora has seven titles, plus two more from the beginning of the 90s while Levadia now also has nine.
