Pehrsson: Estonia much better compared to 2014
Ahead of an important Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia today, Estonian national team head coach Magnus Pehrsson said the team is much better today compared to a year ago, when Estonia beat Slovenia 1-0 at home.
Estonia will be feeling confident after beating Lithuania 1-0 on Saturday, while on the same day Slovenia suffered a demoralizing defeat against Switzerland. In that game, Slovenia led by two goals until the 80th minute, after which Switzerland scored three times to win the game.
Currently Estonia is in third place in the group, with third place heading for play-offs. Slovenia is just one point further down, and has a far easier run-in, facing Lithuania and San Marino, the bottom two in the group, while Estonia faces England and Switzerland in its last two games.
If Estonia stands any chance of making the play-offs, it will have to beat Slovenia and hope to get a point against either England or Switzerland, or hope that Slovenia stumbles against Lithuania.
Tonight's game in Maribor, Slovenia, will begin at 21:45 (Estonian time). ETV will provide live coverage, but only to those in its territory.
In the last two rounds, Estonia will travel to London for a game against England on October 9, then host Switzerland in Tallinn three days later. England has already qualified for the tournament, while Switzerland is more than likely to have qualified by the last match.
