The Estonian and Latvian national football teams shared the spoils for the 18th time in 51 matches as tonight's friendly match in rainy Tallinn ended up even.

The game began like most jokes about Estonia, with the hosts looking sleepy and lost and allowing Latvia to dominate play.

Estonian midfielder Siim Luts broke through on the 16th minute but shot just wide, after which the Estonians woke up and for the next ten minutes it looked as the sides had switched shirts.

By the end of the half, the home team had retreated to a tactic of working very hard to win the ball, then losing it with little effort.

Holding midfielder Aleksandr Dmitrijev gave Estonian head coach a headache for the second half by committing an ill-advised foul shortly before half-time, just minutes after being booked. The referee sent him off, leaving Estonia with ten players.

But as in Estonian jokes about themselves, the national team worked slow and steady. The young striker Henrik Ojamaa then exploded on the right wing on the 67th minute, finding an unmarked Konstantin Vassiljev whose cross was helped into goal by Dmitri Kruglov, 1-0.

But there was no tenth happy ending for Estonia, as Latvia dominated most of the game and midfielder Arturs Zjuzins found the net on the 74th minute.

Both teams pushed for a winner and got close, but had to settle for the 18th draw.
