Logistics Keep Vietnamese in Country Longer than Expected
The several dozen Vietnamese illegal immigrants who entered rural southeast Estonia earlier this year are finding their stay in expulsion centres dragging on longer than expected.
"They are to be expelled by plane but it being tourist season now, there are simply no airline tickets available," said Toomas Kuuse, department head at the Police and Border Guard migration office, in Õhtuleht.
Only two people being expelled may be on any one plane, he said. "Besides the Vietnamese there are other people also in the queue for expulsion," said Kuuse. "Thus the speed at which they are expelled depends on Estonia's own convoying capabilities and the seats available on commercial airlines," he said.
The Vietnamese scooped up in Võru county in February are 28 in number. A total of 56 illegal aliens from Vietnam were apprehended at the border in 2012.
