State Uses Carbon Credits to Buy 110 Eco-Buses
The Road Administration signed a contract with Czech bus manufacturer Iveco, to buy 110 environmentally friendly buses for the 19 million euros earned from selling pollution credits to Spain.
The buses are "especially eco-friendly" vehicles because they emit less exhaust than permitted by the EU's commercial vehicles emission standards.
Fifty-two buses will arrive in the next seven months, the rest will come next year.
Most of the buses will be operating on rural routes in Harju and Ida-Viru County. The remaining 10 will be given to the capital, as the Tallinn Bus Company has been unable to purchase any new buses for two years due to restrictions on investments.
