State Lectures Public Servants on Social Media Activities
The government's security agency KAPO laid down the guidelines at a seminar yesterday for how public servants should and should not behave on social media websites.
Providing officials with a government communication handbook, KAPO lectured on the unwritten rules of responsible socializing, and the possible threats that come with revealing personal information to large audiences.
State employees should: keep a good reputation; speak carefully of work-related issues; conceal information that can compromise their personal weaknesses to foreign intelligence, including the relationships they have with colleagues.
KAPO spokesman Harrys Puusepp said one instance of irresponsible behavior was when a police official had posted a photo of bikini-clad women standing by a police car.
“That's not a security risk, but a police official still represents his institution in social life,” said Puusepp. “The person forgot his role as a state representative.”
