The police detained Tartu councilman Urbo Vaarmann on Tuesday on suspicion of corruption and fraudulent conduct.
The 32-year-old Centre Party member was detained for 48 hours for interrogation but later freed from custody, Postimees reported.
The authorities suspect Vaarmann of receiving a bribe related to his post on the City Council's Development and Planning Committee.
In addition, Vaarmann is suspected of presenting false information when applying for a 30,000 euro grant from the Agricultural Registers and Information Board.
Vaarmann was unavailable for comment at the time of the publishing of the Postimees article. According to the Southern District Prosecutors Office, the alleged crimes were committed in 2010 to the present.
