Court Rules Against Extradition of Russian Banker
Reversing a previous ruling, Tallinn District Court has turned down an extradition request for banker Alexander Dmitriev, wanted in Russia for allegedly embezzling hundreds of millions of rubles.
Harju County Court had ruled in favor of extradition in March, following Dmitriev's arrest in Tallinn in January, reported uudised.err.ee.
The Justice Ministry had issued an extradition order in June. The ministry now has 10 days to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Dmitriev is the former head of the Omsk branch of AK Bars Bank.
