Volunteers Search for Missing Girl
Dozens of Narva residents have taken the initiative and set out to search for a nine-year-old, Varvara Ivanova, who went missing on Sunday evening.
Witnesses said they later spotted the girl in Narva and Jõhvi. She was wearing a short, white jacket, black pants, rubber boots with horse decorations, and a gray woolen hat, the Narva police department said.
Rus.err.ee reported on Friday that a key witness had retracted his testimony, in which he had claimed to have seen the girl getting picked up by an unidentified man in a dark-colored vehicle while the girl was playing on a street near the Narva ice rink.
Night and day, volunteers have been going door-to-door, searching for the missing child in Narva and surrounding towns. Photographs of the girl have been hung up in Tallinn as well.
Local law enforcement has not expanded their search beyond Narva, yet they are helping volunteers to coordinate their activities. "Our resources are limited and the volunteers are of great help," said police chief Sergei Andrejev.
