Businessman Investigated for Felling Trees in Nature Reserve
One of the richest men in Tartu is in hot water over illegal timber cutting in the Otepää nature reserve.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the felling of trees by the idyllic Pülme Lake in the rolling landscape of this part of southern Estonia, where Neinar Seli owns summer property.
Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Carol Merzin said that the cut occurred in late April or early May and the investigation was launched in June.
Seli faces a fine and, technically, imprisonment is a possibility.
He is a former business partner and employer of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip.
