Fire Flares Up Again at Organic Grain Terminal
The Baltics' first organic grain storage facility, which opened this summer to considerable fanfare, has been fighting fires in recent days.
A blaze destroyed 60 tons of grain on Sunday afternoon at the facility in northeastern Estonia, and on Wednesday a second blaze was found and extinguished, uudised.err.ee reported.
Yesterday's hotspot was found in a ventilation duct at a height of about 2 meters.
It took rescue workers about four hours to extinguish the fire.
The Sunday incident was more extensive and involved responders from seven brigades all the way from Rakvere to Narva. A thermal imaging camera was used in an effort to detect any still-smoldering areas.
The 4-million-euro grain terminal was opened this summer as a joint venture funded by organic grain farmers to stabilize buying-up prices and boost their profile on consumer markets. It includes a drying facility and has a capacity of 10,000 + 7,000 tons.
