A murder-suicide where a Finnish man shot his estranged Estonian partner then turned the gun on himself, rocked the passenger ferry terminal in Helsinki on Saturday.

The woman, accompanied by her son, was preparing to depart from the terminal when the man, in his early 50s, shot the woman in the chest, killing her. He ran to his car to reload, by which time the police had arrived. They shot him in the leg, at which point the man turned the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Rock Summer festival fell short of its glory days by most estimates, with sparse turnout on Saturday. Official attendance for the event, which closed Sunday, was not yet in as of this morning, but Jüri Makarov, the organizer of this year's anniversary festival and the original events in the 1990s, blamed demographics, saying that ethnic Estonians and Russians had different musical tastes and that there were few of either. "There are not many people here. We have to bank on niche events, which fortunately we have plenty of," he told ETV. He also said many sponsors failed to keep their promises of support. Johnny Rotten and Ivo Linna were the two artists who played both at an original Rock Summer and this year's bash.
