Regional Military Corps Proposed at Eastern Europe Meeting
At a meeting of Eastern European leaders in Warsaw on Tuesday, the idea of a joint military unit was proposed, which would stretch from Estonia to Poland.
The current NATO quick reaction time is between 60 and 90 days, and joint military cooperation would increase that time.
“As (US) President Obama said, it is imperative to establish NATO's presence more forcefully in central and eastern Europe and to react to Russia's attempt to destabilize Ukraine,” Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski said.
The leaders also agreed that cooperation with Russia must be reviewed, and Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said defense spending in the region must increase.
Ilves also met his Polish counterpart, saying that there are no fundamental differences between the foreign and security policies of the two nations.
