Ambassador to Canada Presents Credentials
The recently appointed Estonian Ambassador to Canada, Marina Kaljurand, presented her credentials to Governor General David Johnston on December 1.
Canada was one of the first countries that recognized Estonia's regained independence 20 years ago, Johnston said at the ceremony held in Ottawa. Also, there is a large Estonian community based in Canada, which has made a significant contribution to shaping the country’s culture, Johnston added.
After the ceremony, Kaljurand introduced the governor general with various Estonian IT-solutions used for providing public services. She invited Canada to become a member in the NATO Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence based in Tallinn.
Both sides acknowledged great cooperation potential in the field of student and youth exchange programs.
Kaljurand served as Estonian Ambassador to Russia in 2005 to 2008, and is currently posted as Ambassador to the United States and Mexico, residing in Washington.
