Undersecretary to Study US Internal Security
On August 30, Interior Ministry Undersecretary Erkki Koort began a five-day official visit to the United States where he will meet with US colleagues and be introduced to new border crossing procedures and internal security technologies.
During Koort's stay, he will pay a visit to the US Department of Homeland Security and other public defense organizations as well as border crossing points.
Topics concerning the US Visa Waiver program, data protection and the usage of passenger information at border points will discussed during the visit, the ministry said.
"Passengers are entitled to expect that crossing the border would be quick and convenient," said Koort, adding that IT solutions can be used to speed up the process and provide law enforcement with better opportunities to carry out their tasks.
