Government Supports Additional Russia Sanctions in Special Sitting
PM Taavi Rõivas today called the government together in a extraordinary meeting to discuss the expansion of EU sanctions against Russia, voting to support additional limits.
Foreign Minister Urmas Paet told ERR radio after the meeting the any affect to Estonia is currently hard to measure. “The question is if Estonia has anything in the affected sectors, which are exporting to Russia. In most of those sectors Estonia has no notable export volume to Russia,” he said, adding that only perhaps the financial sector could be hit.
He said the sanctions could hit the economies of Estonia's trading partners, which could in turn affect Estonia.
The sanctions could incorporate trade with Crimea and Sevastopol, investments, access to capital, the defense sector, dual use goods, sensitive technology and the energy sector.
EU is expected to announce a new round of sanctions by the end of the month.
