Pärnu gets new mayor as long-serving Kivimägi becomes MP
Estonia's fourth largest city, Pärnu, has a new mayor in Romek Kosenkranius, who replaces Toomas Kivimägi, now an MP.
Kivimägi became mayor in 2009 having previously served as Pärnu County Governor from 1993-2009. He joined the Reform Party in 2014 and successfully ran for Parliament, collecting 7,600 votes in his district, beating both EKRE leader Mart Helme and acting Center Party chief Kadri Simson.
Kosenkranius, who was until today the deputy mayor, received the backing of 22 out of 31 councilmen. He was elected to the council as part of the Toomas Kivimägi election coalition. He is not a member of any political party.
