Millions Poured Into Stanford University to Teach Estonian History
The Kistler-Ritso Foundation, a funder of Tallinn's Museum of Occupations, is donating millions of dollars to the Stanford University Foundation to support education on Estonian history in the United States.
One of the donation's principal causes is to digitize historical documents, making them accessible to younger generations, reported Eesti Päevaleht.
Stanford and the Museum of Occupations, which documents the Soviet and German periods between 1940 and 1991, will work together to produce educational materials abroad, and an Estonian will be hired to consult with the program organizers.
As an alumnus of Stanford and having served on the university library's council, President Ilves's son, Luukas Ilves, was invited to become a member of the Kistler-Ritso Foundation.
The daughter of the founder of the Kistler-Ritso Foundation, Sylvia Thompson, is also a graduate of the school.
