'Truth Commission' Clears Tallinn Mayor of Wrongdoing
The Centre Party's "truth commission" has come to the conclusion that Chairman Edgar Savisaar's secretive dealings with Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin were not corrupt. The report is vague on the issue whether the funds were solely or partially meant for building of the church in Lasnamäe.
The party's investigation said accusations that Savisaar is "an agent of Russian influence“ were baseless. Furthermore, the party found fault with the current legislation on campaign financing.
The commission was of the opinion that it is wrong to legally differentiate between domestic and foreign donors because local and foreign capital are so interwoven in today's global community.
