Loone sworn in as MP
Center Party member Kerstin-Oudekki Loone was sworn in as an MP today, completing the changes in the Parliament following last Friday's finalization of a guilty verdict against two Center Party MPs.
The Supreme Court ruled on November 20 not to change a guilty verdict against Center Party MPs Priit Toobal and Lauri Laasi, meaning the two were ejected from the Parliament. Toobal had already resigned a few days earlier.
Loone, who picked up 354 votes at the March 1 national election, replaces Laasi. Anneli Ott, 1,119 votes, had earlier replaced Toobal.
Ott was the head of Võru city council, while Loone is doing her doctorate in state sciences at Tallinn University. Listen to Loone debate politics in English at a European Parliament election debate in 2014.
The change of MPs, two men for two women, brings the number of female representatives to 27 (out of 101).
