Baltic States to Buy €50 Million of Ammunition
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania today announced a joint procurement in Brussels to purchase ammunition for the Carl Gustav recoilless rifle.
Estonia will use the anti-tank rounds for training and to boost reserves for wartime, the Ministry of Defense said today in a press release.
The tender will be organized by the European Defense Agency which will promote the procurement to other European countries in hope to attract more parties to drive prices further down, Ingvar Pärnamäe, the undersecretary for defense investments at the ministry, said.
“We have held joint tenders with Latvia and Lithuania before. Now these regional projects have become European projects,” said Pärnamäe.
“The European security and defense sphere is moving towards greater cooperation to use defense spending in a more sensible manner. The joint tender of the Baltic states is a good example of this,” Pärnamäe added.
Estonia has previous experience in joint procurements with Sweden (military clothing) and Finland (air defense radars).
