PM: Defense Spending Can't Be Cut
Prime Minister Andrus Ansip has stood up for Estonia's level of military spending, saying that reducing the Defense Ministry's budget is not an option.
Speaking live on Radio 4 on Tuesday, Ansip said that next year's planned spending of 1.9 percent of GDP was already lower than the 2 percent level expected of NATO members.
"This is definitely not an area where funding can be delayed, for example, until better times. We have to think about the defense of Estonia every day," he said.
