Solving Poverty Will Lead to Economic Growth, Not Other Way Around - New Social Welfare Minister
The new Social Welfare Minister, Helmen Kütt, has said that economic growth will increase when people do not need to worry about their income.
Speaking on ETV's “Kahekõne” program on Thursday, Kütt said the state should invest in the future by increasing child benefits, adding that money alone will not boost birth rates, but increased funding will give more courage to people to raise children.
Asked about how benefit increases will be funded, Kütt said those questions should be forwarded to Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi.
The new government has pledged to more than double monthly child benefits from 2015.
